Wind FX

Postby filtoid » 23 Jun 2011 21:58

Hello all,

I would be interested in knowing what everybodies thoughts were on this wind sound - it is stereo although a mono version is available - in that it's a sinch to rerender it. I am working on several others but these may take me a few days,

regards,

It sounds interesting. Like a cold dark castle hallway. Which would be great for ice castle levels!
You also seem to already have it in ogg format, which is another plus side!

And hey, if this somehow doesn't make it in-game, can I at least use this in one of my own level sets maybe? I have been working on this really long level-set that could use a few more effects to it!
Feeling nostalgic for this ol' place!

Yeah sure - please feel free to use this whereever - i'm not precious about it. I can do you some more if you like. I was wondering how much wiggle room there was for expanding the audio engine to include random variations in the playback. This wind effect is taken from a very small loop and copy pasted inside Reaper (which as a DAW I strongly reccomend - there is a free unlimited trial version). If it were taken as a small loop and then randomly the volume faded in and out then it would create an excellent wind effect I think. I haven't been able to get the source code to compile yet so not really sure about how flexibility there is in the audio engine for this. I'll post more wind effects when I get a chance to make them. If you have any requests then I'd be happy to make them to a spec (eg. stood on top of a mountain or in a very loud wind tunnel)

That type of effect should be pretty easy, if it's just variations in the volume.
