Ragtime

Postby jobromedia » 24 Nov 2011 10:21

I listened to the current ragtime included in the musics folder, and found a few inconsistencies in it. Don't get me wrong it is a great track, but it isn't properly looped. That's why I decided to compose a replacement for it, or rather four different variations:

A: Only piano at 125 BPM
B: Piano, bass, and drums at 125 BPM
A fast: Same as A but at 145 BPM
B fast: Same as B but at 145 BPM

Ragtime is a genre that was popular 100 years ago. The song played on the second level in world 1 on SMC is ragtime inspired.

My suggestion is to go with Ragtime B.ogg.
This one plays at normal speed, adds a percussion part, and changes halfway through the song.
I thought the percussion was a little too soft in volume, but I think it's good enough to commit to git.

I can’t really decide between versions A and B. But the variations with faster music are a very nice idea, one could use this in conjunction with an event that requires you to run faster.

Version A is good for people who like "pure piano" music without any other instruments.
Version B is good for people who like something else added (though this one also tries something different in the song about half way through).

My view is that the one at normal speed provides an interesting game play music without any special circumstances required. I could see the faster one being useful in some cases.

I don't suppose it's possible to make it play faster through the audio libraries without making it sound bad?

We could always include multiple versions in SMC, though 4 is probably too many files.

I would suggest committing at least one of these to git.
