[SVN 1464] Turtle gets stuck in Enemy Stopper

[SVN 1464] Turtle gets stuck in Enemy Stopper

I know, this "bug" shows poor level design. However, it occurs when you play a level, too. And that's the real problem, I don't want to argue about the poor level design capabilities of some people here.

I'll show you how to reproduce the bug: Jump on a turtle and grab the shell. Move to a cliff, where an enemy stopper has been placed. Press down and the shell will be put on the floor. After some seconds, the turtle awakes and is stuck in the enemy stopper. It tries to walk but unfortunately it can't stir from the spot.

The odd thing is that it only happens when I'm Big Maryo. I bet it was different some versions ago.

I can affirm this. But I don't think this is a critical bug, 'cause it will never happen, if you don't want it to happen. The player has to provoke this bug, so when he doesn't want it to occur it won't happen.

Of course it doesn't happen very often. But it can happen. Just to tell you, I discovered the bug by accident, I didn't provoke it. I took the shell and then walked a bit and released it. I saw that the turtle doesn't move anymore and so I detected that the turtle is stuck in an enemy stopper. I hope it's the confirmation for a "critical bug".

It's not critical as it happens extremely rarely and the level is still playable :)

Critical would be be a crash.
Important if somehow the player dies without a reason.
Normal if the shell dies without a reason.

how is placing an enemy stopper at the edge of a clif poor level design? or is it? is there something i should know or be aware of? some way i can avoid this happening in my levels?

It doesn't show poor level design. You have to place it at the edge, so that no enemies can walk through. The turtle doesn't get stuck very often, it only happens sometimes. Unfortunately you can't avoid the bug, it just needs to be fixed, which isn't a lot of work.

Well I could try to do it.

Maybe we could avoid it by just telling the turtle to not come out if it's in an enemystopper.
Anyway I guess I'll fix it this days evening.

Last time i tried to fix that it was not easy without hacks and the shell should get up again.
A nice fix would be to ignore the enemystopper if it is inside the turtle or the shell moves slowly out of it (with moving animation and only if nothing is in the way).

In my opinion, the enemy stopper should be ignored if there is a turtle stuck in it. It wouldn't be professional to let the turtle shell stay in the enemy stopper because the enemy stopper tile can be placed freely.
