[1.9] spikes on a path randomly follow and disengage path

I was working on my "pipe dreams" level and was planning to have a celing of moving spikes, the problem is

1. they rarely move in unison (this may be more of a feature request) when and if they work
2. they will jump around randomly killing the eatos that i have placed above and below them

i have them placed against a massive pipe with particle emitters neerby if it makes any difference. The moving ceeling only moves a bit, and comes in contacet with no massive surfaces that i'm aware of.
