.DS_Store is read as a level (Mac only)

Postby DevEd2 » 06 Jan 2011 23:58

I went to level select, and discovered that SMC was reading .DS_Store as a level. Has anybody else experienced this?

There's no reason why it wouldn't. You should delete .DS_Store, it's pretty useless.

Anyway, it might be nice if . files were ignored by SMC. Should be, as with many such things, an easy patch (then again, resizable enemy stoppers turned out to be more then I expected). I'll see if I can get that working.

this could be a problem, because some of the older versions of the game read .txt files as default, we have to retain compatibility with these older levels (JUST BECAUSE THATS WHY!) so we cant make it only see .smclvl files. maybe a short blacklist?

They appear intentionally, but because of a bug in the Finder, they appear in every folder you open with Finder. So I usually use Terminal to access my files.

EDIT: You can make a .DS_Store just by deleting an existing one. :P

MrV: It won't effect .txt files, I'm trying to make it ignore any files that start with . in their file name.

SMC 2.0 doesn't support .txt levels anymore :P

In that case, I'm sticking with 1.9. :P

Besides, I happen to like the turtles.

Just so you guys know, the .DS_Store is a file used probably millions of times by the mac and is used for like folder attributes (I think) and other things like that.

SMC Gamer: You can view the hidden files and folders by running.
Code: Select all
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
in a terminal window. If you don't want it anymore, just run
Code: Select all
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

Hope this helps!

I have done that before. I can also use the same command [defaults] to access a hidden window minimize effect, like this:

Code: Select all
defaults write com.apple.dock mineffect -string suck
killall Dock
printf ":D\n"

MULTIPART EDIT

EDIT PART 1: The "printf ":D\n" part is actually not required, but I inserted it anyway because I wanted to. :D

EDIT PART 2: I used QuickTime Player X to record a movie showing how it's done and what it looks like, just in case.
