Resizable Enemy Stoppers!

Postby penguin » 03 Jan 2011 18:47

I was reading the post that Deved2 had made and thought of the resizable enemystopper. It could be resized just like the particle emmitters.

A resizable enemystopper could be useful for enemies on moving platforms. I see great potential for this... ;)

EDIT: Which post of mine are you talking about :?: :nutcase:

I got the idea when I watched the video that you Posted below...
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4087#p26377

I was watching that turtle just walk back and forth between the two blocks and that's when it "dawned on me". :)

This sounds like a valuable feature.

I didn't edit anything.

EDIT: If you pay attention you will see that it was Penguin who had edited his post.

EDIT: I did some coding to see if this was quickly implementable. Doing a test now...

EDIT: I've smashed quite a few bugs in my initial code.

After an hour or so of code editing, I've ended up getting the attributes to show in the level editor (for some reason I have to scroll a little after double clicking to get the properties to appear), and apparently they properly save when I saved my test, but after editing the width and/or height the blue box show the changes in its size and it does not seem to effect the level at all.

FluXy, if you have time if you could tell me what I did wrong (because I have no effin' idea):

No, he can't.
I'm sorry, but I don't really see the use of resizable enemy stoppers. They don't need to be wider, and you can stack them on top of each other if you need a vertical stopper. Unless your talking about enemy boundary boxes.

I have some level ideas that require an enemy stopper to be as tall as the visible area, so stacking is not really feasible.

Plus, having enemy stoppers able to do this will make a nice basis for Scripted Collision Detection Boxes.

I hate to tell you, but I can't apply the patch. You remember my fiasco with the breakable block patch, right? :nutcase:

(For those of you who weren't there, I shall provide a link so you'll understand. :) )

We still didn't get that working?

Also, it is highly possible this will only work with the latest Git checkout.

If you are using Git, then you can simply run:
Code: Select all
git apply unfinished-resizable-stoppers.patch

Any further questions about this should be directed into the Help forum.
