We must finally finish implementing flying Maryo!!!

He's been sitting around as dead code for too long. Time to be Frankenstein!

I saw that on older posts about flying that there were complaints about it breaking the game. First: SMW was made to be unbreakable by flying, as you couldn't fly past the level if you wanted to get the Yoshi coins, plus it was really easy to lose it and flying was hard.

For this game, I recommend that we use a system similar to that suggested for Ninja Maryo. It is an acquired ability that activates blocks throughout the game so that you can fly in certain levels. Then this could make it so levels couldn't be broken until later in the game and you could hide secrets until the game is over.

For contributed levels it could be automatically activated since not all levels are going to have the feather and feathers could not be transfered between levels.

Things we have to do:
  • Get the Maryo SVG approved and then port the older cape Maryo.
  • Create the feather.ogg sound effect that SMC complains about not having (in the command line).
  • Finish the implementation.

dont forget that fluxy says the physics need tweaking.... i believe i remember hearing that.

By the by, I was playing with flying today and it seemed to work quite functionally. I'll list some suggestions tomorrow.

Yes, the svg is the top priority but before flying the small and big should look really good (graphical and technical).

might also be worth our time to re think the flying maryo cape thing maybe the powerup could be a nut and we make maryo a flying squirrel suit.... images follow.

i think its a cute and original idea that would help further seperate us from proprietary side scrollers :P

Yeah. It's not too similar to the Raccoon Suite because it's more of a glide like the cape then a flying like the raccoon with it's tail.

yah its a cute rodent and would be cool, if ask we could inform people we got the idea from rockey and bullwinkle :P at least this idea makes sence unlike some other ideas nintendo has tried pulling off like the racoon tail and the little balloons ect. plus we could change the running animation aqnd or idle animation for squirrel mario......
